March 24 - April 22
Music by Richard Rodgers
Book by Peter Stone
Lyrics by Martin Charnin
*Based on the play The Flowering Peach by Clifford Odets
Richard Rodgers entered his seventh decade of writing for the theatre with this fresh retelling of the Biblical story of Noah. It seems that the building of the ark was only the first of Noah's many daunting challenges in a journey that wasn't always smooth sailing. By turns inspirational and hilarious, Two by Two demonstrates that being chosen by God for great things does not necessarily simplify the daily demands on a father and husband. It's good fun from The Good Book... and when the land has dried, man and beast alike are invited to go forth and prosper in a bright New World.
Welcome to MDT!
I have been truly blessed to work on "Two by Two" with such an amazing cast and crew! This rehearsal process has been a fun journey from start to finish. "Two by Two" goes far beyond the story that we are told in Sunday School. This show dives into the trials of family. I realized working on this project that I hadn't really thought about the hardships this family survived. They not only built the ark... they lived together, slept together, ate together, worked together and cared for the animals together!
I have a deep sadness that "Two by Two" is not a better known musical. The music by Rogers is catchy and you'll leave humming tunes for the next week. Charnin, lyricist, has a brilliant way of matching the style of Stone's meaningful writing. This cast has dug deep into the text of this show and we've had such delight breathing life into it. We hope you enjoy yourself, and thank you for supporting live theater!
Please keep coming back, and spreading the word about MDT!
Thank you,
TJ Bird
