Written by Agatha Christie
October 20 - November 4
After a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. A police detective, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house; a spinster with a curious background; an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major; a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate. This record-breaking murder mystery features a brilliant surprise finish from Dame Agatha Christie, the foremost mystery writer of her time.

The Mousetrap would not have been written if Queen Mary had not requested “something by Agatha Christie” to celebrate her 80th birthday. So, Three Blind Mice, a radio play, was written and performed. Christie could not let go of the idea—she knew the premise was good. She tried it as a short story, but wasn’t satisfied and so she turned it into a play. On opening night, her producer, knowing it had potential, told the author it would run for a year. The author thought differently: “Eight months, I think” she famously predicted.
Well, 75 years later the play is still running in London. Yes, it has become a tourist attraction—but it’s because the play is such a great snowbound mystery that it is still on the boards. It is funny and suspenseful with a number of surprises along the way. Enjoy your time at Monkswell Manor…and don’t breathe a word to anyone of ‘whodunit…’
