The Award-Winning Musical Adaptation of the Classic Dickens’ Novel Springs to Life at Myers Dinner Theatre!
Consider yourself at home with Lionel Bart’s classic musical, based on Charles Dickens’ novel, Oliver Twist! The Tony and Olivier Award-winning show is one of the few musicals to win an Academy Award for Best Picture, and is widely hailed as a true theatrical masterpiece by actors and audience members alike. The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.
Truly wonderful, the mind of a child…
Welcome to Oliver Twist’s Victorian England! As I was reading the Dickens novel in preparation for this production, I was fascinated by the writing style he chose to convey his story with. It is very much written as though a child were telling it, and that has directly affected every aspect of this production for me. I imagined young Oliver telling this story to a group of his friends, and it was a short path toward sensationalizing our method of storytelling from there. A child’s imagination knows no limits or boundaries! Carrying this concept around during rehearsal opened our world to endless possibilities. While this may not look like a traditional Oliver!, I believe that we have crafted an innovative new concept for conveying this 200 year old story to a modern audience. This is a dangerous world Oliver Twist lives in, and he spends much of the story narrowly escaping his own death. The social issues this story tackles remain incredibly relevant to this day, and it is particularly important to me that we entertain AND educate our audience! Many thanks to this amazing Cast & Crew for going down this strange path with me, and to you for continuing to support live theater! This production is dedicated to all the children who are tucked in their rooms creating stories with their toys. You are only ever limited by the confines of your imagination. If you think it is possible, just imagine it in your mind and watch your dreams come to life in front of your eyes! Enjoy the show!

But I would also like to thank Emmie and Sharon Wright for recommending me for this role.
