Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

August 16 - September 8

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Lyrics by Tim Rice

Produced by special arrangement with The Musical Company.

The Irresistible Family Musical about the Trials and Triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s Favorite Son!

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of a main character Narrator, the musical follows preferred son Joseph, who is sold into slavery by his brothers, and proceeds to ingratiate himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar, before ending up in jail for refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family. The magical musical is full of catchy songs in a variety of styles, from a parody of French ballads (“Those Canaan Days”), to country-western (“One More Angel in Heaven”) and calypso (“Benjamin Calypso”), along with the unforgettable classics “Any Dream Will Do” and “Close Every Door.” Appropriate for all audiences and groups, Joseph is performed hundreds of times a year by schools across North America, the U.K. and around the world.

A Note from the Director...

Welcome to my fifth production of Joseph!  Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s first collaboration will always have a special place in my heart.  I had just graduated from high school, and it was my very first professional contract.  This gave the show a  unique opportunity to directly affect my perception of what the “professional” world of theater truly meant…to say nothing of the fact that I was forced to learn all of those colors good and early!  Each time I have revisited the show over the years, I have found nothing but joyful experiences.  While it may be a “watered down” envisioning of an ancient story, working on Joseph makes it impossible not to grin and enjoy what you get to do for a living.  There are so many charming moments, catchy tunes, and in the age of everyone being “on the go,” the one hour and thirty minute run time doesn’t hurt either.  In short, this show is nearly the perfect musical because of its ability to give you exciting entertainment that is safe for everyone and won’t keep you out too late.  I love Joseph, and am thrilled for the opportunity to direct it for the second time!  This production is dedicated to all of the directors of Joseph over the years, whose passion and drive allows this magical show to continue thriving in Regional Theatres everywhere.  L’Chaim!
